/"\X tlio deatli of Sir Edward B} sshe, Clarenceux King of Arms, at the ^ end of the year 1G79, Sir Henry St. George, the second of tliat nan}e, was elected to succeed liini. His patent is dated the 2Sth of Jannarj' IGSO.
In that year a Royal Commission was granted to him for Visiting his Proyince as CLirenceux, no doubt much in the same form as tlie one granted to Bysshe on the 14th of July 16*32 for the same purpose. Tlie Commission granted to Sir Edward Bysslie vras printed by Sir George Armytage in the Preface to the Visitation of Surrey^ made in 1GG2 — IGGS (Hai-l. S^oc, Vol. LX.).
Unfortunately, the original Commission to Sir Henry St. George Las not been found, but the following is copied from the Signet Office P/ocquet Book, now preseryed at tlie Piecord Ofilce : —

King Cliarles II. died on the 0th of February 1085, when a new l?oyal Commission Avas granted by James II., and tlie YisitatioJis ot
Hampshire, 1080, K S,
Loiidon, 1087, K 0, were made. Tliis Coinmission is printed by Dallaway in Ids '• ( h-igin of Heraldry" (pp. 300— 312).^
The Visitation of Warwickshin" 1 0^^2-3, contained in the present Volume, was commenced at Coventry on tht.- 2-jtli of March 10^2 by Thomas May, Chester Herald, and Gregory King, Pu.uge Dragon Pursui- vant, the Deputies of Clarenceux, reviewed f.y them during Auirust and September of the same year, and finally <;e.mpleled by Henry Dethick, Eichmond Herald, and Gregmy l\in- in August 10s3. Four or tive pedigrees were entered in London in 1082.
This series of Visitations has another interest. Dallaway states in his "Heraldry," in the life of Gregory King (p. xxxv-xxxvi;, that the

In llio Ap],.ondix will bo found some pedigrees an.l notes referred to iri the Visitation.
Almost all the pedigrees bear the signature of the h':^ads of the families or their representatives, and it has been possible in a few insianct's lo print these in facsimile. Two points of interest mav be iK.lod. In tlio family of Fitch >:.f Wolvey it is recorded (p. 1-31) that ThoTuas Fitchj the heir, was aged 16 years in ]682, and his wife Sarah, daughter and heir of Ezekias Smalbrook, was aged 14. Of Puritan nomenclature there is a good exam]ile (pp. 37, 38) : Love-is-God Gregnrv. whc died about the year lGo4, had a son of the same name, who signs the pedigree.
All additions to the text are, as usual, printed in italics.
